Founded by Raqueeb Bey in 2011,this grassroots program that has an extraordinary positive effect on the community is Mama Africa’s Green Scouts (MAGS).This is a youth program that guides African descent youth in the range of all ages in various different components of greening areas. We are a grassroots organization that runs its program in the uptown section of The Historic Hill District of Pittsburgh and The Homewood area.

The mission of Mama Africa’s Green Scouts is to provide African descent youth with the necessary skills to learn the importance of diverse greening sustainable customs. Mama Africa’s Green Scouts vision is to teach our youth in under served communities, environmental justice, urban farming, financial literacy, community organizing, green jobs, African culture and fair urban sustainability justice in our communities.

Since 2015 MAGS has been the youth program for The Black Urban Gardeners and Pittsburgh Co-op. We will start in Pittsburgh and carry our programming to our sister city working with our partners in Philadelphia.
